Put Community First
Community-Driven Change
We believe the first step in unlocking transformative schools is listening to what students and families need and want while investing and supporting their leadership as powerful partners to districts. Too often, families and students face barriers to participation or don’t feel welcome to share their perspectives. The Bay Ed Fund invests in the leadership of those closest to students.
Examples of what this looks like in practice:
- We gather input through thousands of surveys, focus groups, and community conversations. The first question we ask: what is required for all students in your community to thrive as adults?
- We run 10-week family fellowships for family leaders who want to have a seat at the table with district leaders.
- We bust barriers to participation through trust building and a focus on accessibility (childcare, translation services, food, stipend, etc.).
