Sophie is a creative strategist passionate about advancing educational justice and fostering a radically welcoming culture within nonprofit organizations. She manages communications and growth strategy for the Bay Ed Fund. Before this, Sophie’s career spanned a variety of roles: she started as a classroom teacher through Teach for America, then moved into policy and advocacy at the Opportunity Institute, followed by roles in organizational strategy, fundraising, and communications at Pivot Learning and UnboundEd. Sophie holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College.

Adha (ah-d-ha) is a systems-minded leader who is passionate about excellent pedagogy and creating schools where young people can actualize their innate potential. He has dedicated himself to this passion through classroom teaching, leading professional development, and community engagement. Adha uses the frameworks and mindsets of liberatory design to bring communities together for conversations that explore needs, generate new ideas, and chart the path forward. At the Bay Ed Fund, Adha leads district and community partnerships to bring strategic plans to life.

Nikita is a firm believer that everyone is entitled to a high-quality education that empowers them to live lives centered in purpose and agency. She is excited to continue building systems that actualize this vision.

She has spent time at McKinsey & Company and a number of notable ed-tech companies, including Khan Academy and Desmos PBC, but her favorite job was teaching 4th grade at Think College Now Elementary School in Oakland, CA.

Nikita holds degrees from Harvard Business School, Loyola Marymount University, and Northwestern University.

Joy is the daughter of immigrants who always held a strong conviction in education as a tool for social mobility. She began her career in management consulting before moving to the Bay Area to pursue an MBA and Master’s in Education at Stanford, drawn back into education by the chance to bring the promise of public schools to life for 全部 communities.

Peior to joining the team, Joy spent four years leading strategy and operations at Ravenswood City School District, working alongside students, educators, and families to translate a shared vision into measurable outcomes in literacy and attendance. As a Bay Ed Fund Fellow, Joy now serves as Chief of Staff to the Superintendent of the Sunnyvale Elementary School District, where she blends her experience in strategy, operations, and organizational change with a deep commitment to creating schools where every student thrives.

Rachael Weingarten is an equity-driven educational leader with more than 20 years of experience building high-performing schools and systems that serve historically underserved communities. Beginning her career as an elementary teacher in Tucson, Detroit, and Los Angeles, she has dedicated her work to ensuring that a child’s zip code never determines their future. As the founding Principal of Caliber: ChangeMakers Academy and later Chief Schools Officer at Caliber Public Schools, Rachael led transformational academic outcomes while building the systems, leadership pipelines, and instructional coherence needed to sustain excellence across schools. Her expertise spans instructional design, instructional leadership development, and principal coaching, including the creation of a Principal-in-Training program to cultivate future school leaders. As Partner in Instruction at the Bay Ed Fund, Rachael supports instructional strategy and student outcomes across partner communities, helping schools implement high-quality, evidence-based practices that advance educational equity and create lasting impact for students.

Jimmy’s passion for transformational learning began as a student in the second graduating class at Summit Prep in Redwood City, where his experience sparked a lifelong commitment to equity and innovation. Over the past decade, Jimmy has led work at the intersection of teaching, school leadership, and systems strategy—supporting educators and communities to design more equitable, student-centered learning environments. He’s helped build and scale initiatives focused on personalized learning, whole-child data, and community-driven school design.

At the Bay Ed Fund, Jimmy continues this work by partnering with districts and communities to build the conditions for bold, student-centered change. In every role, he brings a deep belief in inclusive, high-performing learning environments—and in the power of aligned teams and systems to make them a reality.
