Community Partnerships

Sunnyvale

This fall, we are kicking off work in our fourth district community, Sunnyvale Elementary School District (SESD) — starting with making their bold vision for student success, the Sunnyvale Promise, real and relevant for all.

A few years ago, the Sunnyvale community created the Sunnyvale Promise, a vision for what every student in our schools deserves.
This year, under the leadership of new Superintendent, Dr. Gudiel Crosthwaite, the community is working to shape Sunnyvale 2030 – not by writing a new plan, but by making the one they have clearer, stronger, and more inclusive. As they say, “We’re Not Starting Over. We’re Making It Real.”

1. Listening and Learning

The Bay Ed Fund is supporting SESD leaders on a rigorous journey of listening and learning together around what it looks like for every student to thrive–breathing new life into the Sunnyvale Promise.

Community conversations will inform our work of moving the Sunnyvale Promise from vision to action. Through a districtwide listening campaign—including surveys, interviews, and student visioning sessions—we aim to hear from 4,000+ stakeholders this year.

Family leaders from across the district will participate in our Promise Families Fellowship, a yearlong cohort experience focused on data fluency, advocacy, and community leadership.

We will engage educators and leaders across the district in focus groups to refine a set of focused goals for Sunnyvale 2030, and a clear near-term action plan that is actionable and measurable.

A Promise Team made up of students, families, educators, and community leaders will meet monthly to shape recommendations that become the district’s actual priorities and plans.
